One of the goals of Firemaker is to help preserve traditional skills that are at risk of being lost or are difficult to find instruction on elsewhere. We aim to have the bulk of our workshops focus on these traditional skills and have broken workshops into two groups (core and supplemental) to facilitate this. Core workshops are ones that we seek to have every year and request that instructors focus on. These workshops form the backbone of the Firemaker gathering and workshop experience. Supplemental workshops also enrich our connection to self, community, and nature. These workshops contribute to village-building and are considered supportive to the core of Firemaker. We ask those planning to instruct at Firemaker to limit themselves to one supplemental workshop each.
Core workshops: hide tanning, weapon making (bows, slings, atlatl), tool making, friction fire, cordage making, animal processing, plant processing, trapping/snares, nature awareness and sensory activities, weaving, shelter building, basket making, wild medicine, stalking/scout skills, Core Routines practice, primitive crafting, carving, bird language, flint knapping, emergency survival, instrument making, primitive astronomy, tracking
