Other Activities
There are many moments throughout Firemaker where someone may offer an early-morning activity or a between-afternoon-workshops-and-dinner discussion or wrestling match. Please consult with the council prior to offering an activity, so we can make sure you have time at the circle to announce it, and so that we can schedule it with the least amount of conflict with other activity times.
Some of the early morning activities from previous years include yoga, song circles, trail running, morning swims, meditation, and bird language workshops. Late afternoon activities have included a contact dancing workshop, a hosted discussion on Intentional Community, and a two-part discussion on Community-Supported Healing. Some of the evening activities we have had in previous years include music (and dancing!) around the firepit, the Firestalk, storytelling, and the super-awesome Talent Show. Saturday night is traditionally the evening of the Giveaway; please visit this page to read more about it. |
Talent ShowFiremaker's talent show happens towards the end of the gathering, and is a unique way to celebrate our time together and the individual gifts that we bring. It is also a way for everyone to share a part of themselves that may not have been revealed throughout the week! Past performances have included juggling, synchronized dancing, improv theatre, singing, music, clowning, bursting out of a vest with the sheer strength of gut force, etc. Come on out, enjoy the show, and bring your talent!

Trade BlanketsThis is Firemaker's own little barter fair, where you can lay down a blanket and set out your wares for trading!
This event is so much fun, and the more people who participate, the funner it is! We encourage people to bring trade items that are natural, handcrafted, homemade or wilderness related. Be creative about what you bring to trade! Bartering is encouraged, but if you want to take part and don't have something you've crafted to trade with, remember that services can also be traded! Money is an acceptable trade as well if you don't have items or services to offer. SingingGroup singing has been an essential human trait for tens of thousands of years. When people sing together it encourages social bonding & feelings of closeness, trust and friendship. At Firemaker there are plenty of opportunities to participate in group singing through out the week. Singing together is medicine: it strengthen community connection and brings joy and healing to heart and soul.

The 100 Herb Challenge
Some years, Garliq has challenged us to find 100 different wild herbs!
Pit CookOne of the oldest methods of cooking food: a large pit is dug in the earth, it is lined with rocks, and a fire is burned for many hours in the pit to get the rocks very hot. The pit is then lined with vegetation, filled with food, and covered with vegetation and earth. It is left to cook for many hours. Unearthing the pitcook is a celebratory Firemaker community event with lots of singing and ceremony as the food is gathered and piled high on trays for serving. This is always a Firemaker highlight! You won't want to miss it!

Firestalk
The Firestalk is a game played each year at Firemaker.
Essential Items: a bonfire and some willing participants!
Potential Items: dark, mottled clothing; charcoal or face paint; anything else that will help you hide at night
We build a bonfire (unless there is a fire ban!), then wait until dark, singing songs and telling stories while we wait. We choose to be a watcher or a stalker. The stalkers don their charcoal and maybe even put twigs in their hair, and the watchers sit comfortably near the fire. The stalkers disperse and take a few minutes to hide themselves, before starting to creep, stalk, roll, sneak, and otherwise try to get as close as they can to the bonfire, without being spotted by a watcher. Fun ensues!
